Here's how you decide when to spend more or buy the inexpensive option.

The issue of when to splurge and when not to is a common conversation in our world. So let’s settle a debate.

The correct answer? It depends (ignoring the aspect of the environment for a sec).

When making this decision you have to ask yourself a few questions, after all, you know your lifestyle best.

How much does the item cost and how often are you wearing it? 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞?

Woah - tongue twister!

Basically here is a cheat sheet, 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐩𝐞𝐫-𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫. That's basically the cost of the item divided by how often you will wear it.

Let's say you buy a $300 pair of jeans and you wear it a couple of times, that's $150 per wear. And in our books $300 sitting in your closet. *cringe*

On the flip side, let's say you are a live-in your denim kinda individual and you wear the same pair 30 times, suddenly it's only $10 per wear. Rather than buy a $10 will you will replace each time it falls apart - and trust us when we say it will be replaced way more than 30 times. Now that's getting your money's worth. *no cringe*

At DSM, we use this logic a lot when helping clients navigate when to spend a bit more and when not to. Especially when it comes to high ticket items like winter coats and shoes, which if you buy the high-quality kind and spend a little more on, you are going to wear 1000 times over!

Too much math and too many variables? 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭 with our Virtual Styling. Consider it learning how to balance your love of fashion and managing your coin.
