Every now and then, putting together outfits can be a challenge. Maybe you’re feeling tired and didn’t have a chance to plan out your outfit the night before, or maybe you’ve been feeling uninspired with your wardrobe and just can’t figure out what to wear. Whatever the reason may be, don’t worry, because we’ve got a quick and easy three-step guide to help you put together an outfit any time.

Step 1: Build around a “hero” piece

When having trouble building an outfit, start by choosing what we like to call a “hero” piece. This refers to any article of clothing that your whole outfit will be based around. The hero piece can be anything from a fun pair of trousers, to a dress or blazer with an interesting silhouette, pattern, colour, or texture. It will be much easier to create an outfit once you have chosen the hero piece of clothing that your whole outfit will be based around.

Let’s use the outfit above as an example. The hero piece of the outfit is the polka dot bow-tie blouse.

Step 2: Choose comfortable pieces

The next step to putting your outfit together is to find comfortable pieces that correlate with your “hero” article of clothing. This can really be anything from choosing a soft cozy sweater if your hero piece is a coat, a basic tank or shirt if your hero piece is a suit and the list goes on.

Using the example mentioned above, the comfortable pieces in this outfit would be a pair of stretchy leather pants and the brown lapel coat. Not to mention, the leather pants help bring out the polka dots in the blouse since they’re both black.

step 3: Combine fits that compliment your physique

The last and final step to easily put together any outfit is to combine different fits of clothing that compliment your physique. For example, maybe you want to accentuate the top half of your body but you have narrow shoulders. To accentuate them wearing a blazer with shoulder pads can help. This can also include using accessories such as belts to help draw attention to your waist if you want to make your waist look smaller or give yourself an hourglass figure.

In this case, a simple way to bring attention to the model’s body and add some shape was by tucking the blouse into the leather pants to accentuate her waist.
