We love it so much we had to let the whole world know, so of course we took it to The Marilyn Denis Show. Because you are part of the inner circle, we won’t be giving you the condensed version but the step-by-step to getting it right every time.

  1. Know what is in your closet

We have said it before and we will say it again, you don’t need a lot of clothing to be stylish. In fact, if you don’t know pretty much everything in your closet off the top of your head you probably have too much. The solution, purge your closet twice a year. What this does, is allow you to sort and donate unworn pieces, re-organize and reacquaint yourself with what you own.

If this is too daunting a task, we have a professional closet organizing service designed to make things easy for you.

2. Buy pieces with interest and personality

Think of it this way, a quality meal starts with quality ingredients. It’s the same logic with style. Before you purchase something, ask yourself what makes it different and what interesting feature does it have. You will soon find that you are not moved by every item you see, hey money saving! Over time every piece in your closet will be interesting and unique, that’s truly the beginning of having a style that has personality.

3. If you cannot think of three existing items to pair an item with, do not buy it

This is the part that you are really reading this blog for. This #DSMStyleTip has saved many folks tonnes of money because what it does is prevent you from accumulating items that do not pair well together and therefore only lead you back to buying more. This usually happens when you only wear something in the same combination and then get bored of it only to go out and purchase another item to pair it with and go through this whole overspending process over and over again.

So here is the trick, before you click buy if you can’t think of three items that are already in your closet then don’t buy it. This is why point #1 is key, you have to know what you have to begin with and it will easily come to mind as you make the purchase decision.
